12/10/2013 A simple way to check in on your valuesYou know what's important to you, right? Here's a simple, down and dirty way to compare how you ARE living with how you WANT to live. Go ahead and right them down - what is most important to you in the world? What do you value the most? If ranking them is stressful, just write down 10 things that really matter. Now comes the tricky part! Get out your last credit card or bank statement... And write down where your money goes. How are the lists similar? How do they differ? This is a simplistic and reductionist approach to the question, but I also find it a worthwhile and revealing exercise. A great follow up is to get your year end spending summary from your credit card company and use a full 12 months' worth of data!
